Course Pricing Information

Thank you for your interest in dive training with BJL Diving! We could not be more excited to help you increase your diving skills and knowledge to assist you in hitting all your diving related goals. Technical diving requires a unique set of skills that are not taught in normal SCUBA courses and we want to be your resource as you look for advanced dive training opportunties.

At this level, we whole-heartedly believe that the quality of your instruction is driven by the instructor, not the training agency. As you consider options for where you will pursue your training, we encourage you to search for an instructor that has invested in getting themselves to, and beyond, the level of diving you are striving for. Look at their training, their experience, their hours of personal skill development, and their ability to connect with you to help you learn and develop. Find out who trained them, if they are doing fun dives at the level they are teaching, and more. The answers to these questions will help you select the right instructor for your needs.

Also understand that quality instruction will have a cost associated with it. This means that it will require an investment in your time, energy, and money. While price is a relevant consideration, it should not be your primary focus as poor instruction will cost you far more in the long run. Good instruction is not cheap and cheap instruction is rarely good! While our approach does not provide the cheapest instruction,  our tailor-made technical training approach allows us to build a program based on your goals and needs as a diver. We can take you where you want to go from dipping your fins into technical diving to teaching at the highest level in the industry. We can build a program around your goals as a diver!

As you take the time to search out quality instruction, and invest appropriately, you will reap dividends as you are able to explore new depths of the diving world.

So how much does it actually cost:

To schedule a course with BJL Diving we require a $500 deposit at the time of booking. This holds your spot on our calendar and keeps the time blocked off for your course. All our courses are scheduled on demand, and we will teach them with only one student in the course so once you are scheduled your course is a GO! Ben typically books out 4-6 months in advance so it is imperative to get on the training calendar when you see an opening!

Ben’s instructor fee is $275.00-$350.00 per student per day. We don’t price any of our courses by the course as every student has different needs and backgrounds. By pricing our courses this way it keeps the upfront cost clear. If you book the course with a dive buddy we will reduce the course cost by $50 per person per day. If we add additional students to the course there is no additional discount. The balance of the course fee, based on the estimated course duration, is due in full 30 days prior to course start date. At this point the course fee and deposit are non-refundable.

What is included in the course cost:

Our course fee is just that– it is the fee for the instructor’s time to help you develop as a diver!

With BJL Diving certifications are earned and not given; you are paying for training, not a card.

We don’t guarantee you will pass the course, but we do guarantee that we will give you everything we can for you to be successful. This may mean practicing skills outside of the course or completing additional dives with and/or without your instructor to ensure your skill level is where it should be before you earn your certification card.

If you are not successful on completing the course initially, this does not mean that you failed the course. Ben will provide you with detailed information on what needs to be improved upon so you will be successful. The only students BJL Diving has ever failed are students that had a cavalier attitude about the risks involved in diving at the technical level.

What is not included in the course cost:

We are honored to have been able to teach students all over the world. These varied locations also come with a wide variety of costs.

BJL Diving will do their best to provide an estimated cost prior to you placing a deposit. This is usually easier for larger items, such as travel. However, some items, such as gas fills, incidentals, etc. are much harder to estimate so there will need to be some flexibility on your part in terms of understanding an exact cost. We will do our best to provide rough estimates.

Because expenses vary with every course and location, all costs will be billed directly to the student at the completion of the scheduled training. All costs will be billed at the actual cost incurred by BJL Diving and then split between all students in the course, including any instructor level students. Costs that will be billed above and beyond the course cost are travel, diving related costs, rental equipment, e-learning, certification fee, additional dives or training days.
